After previously causing portals to open between worlds, Gordon released a race of aliens from enslavement on Xen and was placed into stasis by a mysterious figure known only as the G-Man. Meanwhile a race of aliens known as the combine enslaved Earth and is devouring its resources. Freeman awakens on a train heading for a massive city known only as City 17. The alien Combine empire watches over its human minions from a massive fortress called the Citadel, within which the human governor is none other than Gordon Freeman's old administrator, Dr. Wallace Breen. Uniting with the resistance fighters which contain some of his old acquaintances from the Black Mesa research facility (such as Barney Calhoun from Half-Life: Blue Shift), Gordon leads the resistance to free mankind with the help of the creatures he liberated from Xen, and the Antlion controlled with pheromones. After the fall of the first fortress G-Man places Gordon back into stasis.
Years after the Black Mesa Incident (from the original Half Life game), the mysterious G-Man summons Gordon Freeman from his induced slumber. Placing him on a train, Gordon finds himself in "City 17", one of an unknown number of 'urban centers,' where humans are kept in an Orwellian pseudo-slavery by a mysterious alien race known as the Combine. City 17, possibly located in eastern Europe, is overseen by Dr. Breen, a former administrator of Black Mesa who, after arranging the surrender of Earth to the Combine, was rewarded with a leadership position. Humans are now half-way oppressed by themselves. Prisons, concentration camps and urban centers alike are controlled by the Combine Overwatch, members of a somewhat voluntary military in which participation is rewarded with various benefits such as with better living conditions. People are also attracted to it because they would like to feel like being part of something greater then themselves, and also because they can get away with physically abusing, tormenting, and killing the civilians. A resistance stirs in the shadows… a large system of underground railroads are in place. The populace is on the edge of total rebellion. What they need is a little inspiration, and a little push, and Gordon Freeman may be just the man to provide it…
This was one of the most expected video games of all time. I wasn't pretty thrilled because I have never played the first "Half Life". It was a shame, to go with the sequel first. But, after that the first one, I got connect the two of them and I say… cool. Half Life 2 holds brilliant graphics, more defined characters, as you can remember, in first game, there were only three distinctive characters Dr. Kleiner, Barney Calhoun and G-Man. This time, we got Dr. Wallace Breen, he is the main villain, Dr. Vance, good friend of Freeman's, Alyx Vance, she is an extremely sexy daughter of Dr. Vance, very likable character (and she has a big, powerful cyborg dog) and Dr. Judith Mossman. The previous characters from the first game are also here, to give you a "warm welcome" into this sequel.

Now, compared to the first game… which was a instant classic first person shooter evolution in 1998, it was simple game, while this one, it is more… movie-like. Yep, the plot is more complex, with more surprises and great ending. Plot is very good. The atmosphere is varied from empty ruined streets to creepy tunnels, sewers and graveyards… and it's awesome. The music, sound effects are cool, action is perfect, only this time, you get to carry less weapons, and you must use them wisely, yep there are moments in the game when you need to use your brain. That's good. The engine is upgraded. You also get to drive cars and boats. Cool. And this time Gordon Freeman is like a messiah, everybody expects to save them from the tyranny of Dr. Wallace Breen. The enemies varies from Breen's combine forces (police officers if you will) to some new tough, large and sometimes elusive and creepy monsters. Some of them, from the first game still hangs around, good to see them here. And that was great too.

Anyhow… you just can't get any disappointment from this game, it's brilliant, and you will be amused by playing it. Do it and enjoy.
I was one of the people that spent a year waiting to play this game (Mainly due to the infamous "Source" theft). This game is amazing. The graphics and physics are excellently inputed into the game, and you don't need an Alienware computer to play it. I ran it was 9800 PRO, And 64 3400+, 1 gig RAM and it ran EXTREMELY WELL on all high (Higher end system kinda). The physics and mods can make someone buy this game! Garrys Mod was my choice thing to do on weekends (Which is now consumed by filming stuff or Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within) Pick up this game NOW!!! For those of you who have and loved it, wait for Half-Life 2: Aftermath, coming (hopefully) April 2005
